About
Jacob Updyke is a story artist, visual development artist, and a 2D animator. He graduated Cum Laude from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2025 with a BFA in Animation for Storytelling and Concept Development. He's also a graduate from the Animating for the Climate Crisis Fellowship at the School of Visuals Arts and Ringling College of Art and Design Precollege Program.
Jacob has worked on a number of live action and animated and short films as a 2D animator, layout artist, director, executive producer, preproduction lead, audio mixer, voice actor, and more. In 2024, he pitched and assembled the team for SCAD Animation capstone film Pippin and the Tale of the Mountain Troll, which has finished production and is set to release to selected film festivals in 2025.
Jacob believes that animated media has the greatest potential for storytelling. "It allows creators to push stories to there absolute limits, to challenge what we think we know about the world. Through animation, we can invent worlds, characters, and ideas, that are not bound to the logistical limitations of the real world, and I think that's incredible."
